We took Taj Mihelich, Leif Valin, Sandy Carson, and Chris Cotsonas to the French Alps and celebrated Chris’ birthday in one of the best ways imaginable.
Did you go on a bike ride, eat some pretzels, and found yourself thirsty? Well, don’t sweat. We have a couple new water bottles in stock. There’s our 26oz Shark Bike and our 22oz Shark Walk. Each one utilizes The Purist technology which shields the bottle from taste, mold, and staining. Nothing sticks, your bottle stays clean, and your water tastes pure. In addition to these new water bottles, there’s also our 16oz K.E.G. Storage. It fits in standard water bottle cages with a mouth large enough to stash emergency tools, patch kits, more pretzels, and whatever else you don’t want bunching up your pockets.
It’s Friday, and the perfect time of year to spend some time out on rivers and lakes. Who’s going fishing?!
When given the opportunity to build my own custom Pearl White Parser I choose the parts below. I envisioned a bike that would be ideal for off road adventures and ready for some light cargo if I was to install a front rack and/or a rear Adjust-A-Rack. I’ve taken this bike out for weekend rides around Bonelli Park in La Verne, CA and also to Griffith Park in Los Angeles. The Parser feels solid and responsive carving around the bends and the dirt/gravel that you can come across near the Hollywood sign. The 700×35 Ritchey Shield Cross tires are just wide enough for my comfort and they can handle sharp turns with ease. My favorite feeling was the downhill coast through the fire trails over to the backside of Griffith Park. This complete bike weighs 20 lbs which allowed me to catch some air when rolling through the dips in the woods. The Phil Wood hubs, DT Swiss spokes and H Plus Son rims complement each other well, allowing for a complete wheel set that is very sturdy and durable. I wanted this Parser to be reliable and enjoyable for riding trails here in California. The gear ratio I choose was a 48 tooth front chain-ring and 18 tooth rear freewheel. The goal with this build was to have an easy/fun/comfortable ride, and that has definitely been achieved. The build was finished off with proven and dependable components from Ritchey and SRAM. In general, The Parser is a single-speed warrior that’s very tough. I would totally race CX on this bad ass machine. I hope you like what you see! We may have forgotten to sell all of our special edition Sea Otter T’s at the Sea Otter Classic event recently. Check out our closeout section for a great deal on this shirt while it lasts ($10!).
We got a bunch of nice photos gliding through our #fairdalebikes photo stream. Here is one from @jpbevins of @carlyomalley on our 2016 Weekender Drop. Here’s our pretty 2015 Weekender in the much sought after Electro Silver finish from @nolifelikethislife. We loved this finish so much we tried to re-order it for 2017. To our surprise we found out that there was a mistake with the price for the 2015’s and the cost of this complicated finish is actually MORE than the frame and fork itself! From our pals over at the amazing PNT Magazine comes this photo of @mjulovesu cruising her fully customized 2014 Weekender Drop. We are huge fans of what PNT Mag does. They even sent in a field trip report you should take a look at here. And, this beauty from our good friend Mr Brent Humphreys. Brent is an amazing photographer, founder of Project Loop and a dad to Boone! He’s riding our OG Weekender (we still have frame and forks of this model) with a Weeride seat and a buddy. Thanks for the pics!
It was my buddy JC’s birthday last month I made a little 15 second animation for him on instagram here -Taj *Sound needs to be on to make sense.* Today is the birthday of one of the most progressive riders I know, @JimCielencki. He rode with the simple motto, “I want to see what’s possible”. He created all kinds of tricks and his influence can be clearly seen on riding today. However, testing boundaries like that didn’t always work out first try! I decided to tell the story of my first memory of Jim. He was perched on an impossibly narrow ledge on top of a near vertical wall. I rode up to see what the was up too and… #43 #happybirthdayjc A video posted by Taj Mihelich (@tajlucas) on Mar 28, 2016 at 5:55am PDT
The bicycle industry has deemed shifting the front chainrings on your bicycle to be unnecessary. The front derailleur has been declared dead. The Fairdale R&D team has the vision to see that the front derailleur still has plenty of life left in it. The incredibly dynamic mechanical range of the front derailleur has many potential uses. The newly formed Fairdale Bikes Front Derailleur Repurposing Division (FBFDRD) is focused on honoring the front derailleur by finding new and practical uses for this beloved bicycle mechanism.
