Fairdale Bikes now available at Empire BMX September 14 2011

That’s right. Fairdale Bikes are now available from Empire BMX. More and more shops around Austin are starting to pick them up and shops around the country are starting to catch on too. We’ll put up a dealer locator soon, but for now, Fairdale shares the same distributor as Sunday Bikes. Anyone who sells Sunday can get you a Fairdale, or now you can even mailorder one from Empire…. though of course, we still want you to go to a Fairdale dealer to have it professionally assembled. Bikes, and Frame and fork kits are out now and very reasonably priced. If your shop doesn’t have them they can just get ahold of Full Factory Distribution to pick one up. Check out these super awesome shops in Austin, TX for some of the very first run of available Fairdales: Fast Folks at 1105 E. 6th St. (512) 524-8260 Ozone Bike Department at 3202 Guadalupe St  (512) 302-1164 Clown Dog Bikes at 2821 San Jacinto Blvd (512) 477-4221 The Peddler at 5015 Duval St (512) 220-6766 Buck’s Bikes at 12530 Research Blvd (512) 250-9550 Empire BMX at 6310 N. Lamar Blvd (512) 474-4269

Interbike and NORA Cup bound September 14 2011

Looks like the Fairdale-mobile is all warmed up and I’m about to shred some tires on the drive out to Interbike. Also looking forward to attending the Nora Cup awards and doing the annual bike industry reunion. I’m also kind of gearing up for going into Texas Toast Jam mode. Hoping to get to talk to a lot of people out at Interbike and get some more good ideas for this years comp. My first quest when back after Interbike is to find a venue. Got a couple cool ideas that will make this years comp really special.

Skaterack mania! August 23 2011

Our Skaterack has been getting loaded up with good press. It all started thanks to a mention over at the Prolly is Not Probably blog. Then Wired picked it up and called it “ingenous”! Skaterack on WIRED Then Gizmodo took it. Skaterack in Gizmodo Whats really cool is that all these different writes ups are unique… like they actually took the time to write their own version of the stories rather then just copying text from the previous link. They are all very positive and nice about it too. I’m really stoked! Of course, the darn things still not even out yet. I just got confirmation they will finally be shipping to me this week. Which means shops should have them in a few more weeks. A few more links on the rack… this one in German at Hightech and Blechk! DoobyBrain.com’s version. Here it is again on Christian Media Cross presented by libaw And Spanish language I heart BV (buenavibragroup.com) And Modern-Techie And Boojjy And a nice write up with extra pictures at CoolThings.com® And even a Danish language version at PCTV

More Fairdale Ads from the 80’s. August 23 2011

This one is actually from ’78 back when we were mostly a Protein shake company. Ah… the mid 80’s didn’t go so well for us. We tried to get on that trials fad and just really miss judged the market. Turns out kids didn’t think pink helmet invisible front wheel endos on the moon were as cool as we did.

Fairdale custom build on the cheap August 23 2011

I built up a small Parser Black frame and fork for a friend. Built it mostly with parts I found laying around. Granted, not everyone’s bike shed is as full of so many high end bike parts as the Odyssey Austin shed, but I’m pretty stoked on how it came together. Built it with a Sturmey Archer 2-speed kick back coaster hub so I could skip buying brakes. Also, put a pair of Aaron Ross’s old cranks on the bike (hey, if he left them on the floor…) and of course Twombolts are not cheap cranks. It could have had any old left over crankset thoug and I used a old 35t profile sprocket I had from my mountain bike. Had some 35mm wide tires to put on it too which make it fun on the gravel bike trails around here. All in all a really simple and basic build that makes for a pretty fun bike to ride.
